Professional Football Greenwood High-School, South Carolina '86 Johnson C Smith University and Livingstone College class of '92 Drafted by Dallas Cowboys in '92 Chicago Bears '93 Toronto Argonauts '94. '95, '02 Saskatchewan Roughriders '96-'01
My story changed when I was on academic probation while attending Johnson C Smith. I sat out of school for two years and returned to school at Livingstone College. I worked two and sometimes a 3rd job just to make ends meet and I didn’t really have a backup plan for anything. I wanted to play football for a living and did what I had to do to make it happen, but mentally, I just didn’t get what it took. I was released three times but was always given another chance because of my work ethic and it paid off in the end.
First thing I'd say would be to put in the work and make the sacrifices. Secondly, to be humble and thankful for your opportunities and if your sports career doesn't work out as planned, then try coaching or mentoring the younger generations.
JT, you are being awfully humble. I've played with you a number of years and not only you were a really good player. This post reminds me of you on the team because you would just let your actions do the talking. Way to be persistent in your pursuit of football. It sounds like your road wasn't easy but great job hanging in there. Of course you got into the Saskatchewan Hall of Fame in 2018 so that is an amazing recognition. For those who don't understand what the CFL is all about, well, it's a great league with great athletes and to be in a HOF, is a great feat! Way to go JT! -Gary Rogers
