My Story

Option #1: click on video below to listen to Silver & Gold or Jesus (minute markers below).

Hi my name is Gary Rogers, founder of Check Your Game, but God is boss.  I thought I’d change it up a bit and give you 2 scenarios/options that were on my heart.  Let me introduce you to an amazing Canadian born singer that I’ve been encouraged by lately.  George Beverly Shea (2/1/1909-4/16/2013) lived for 104 years old and is continuing to encourage others through his testimony through his song.

00:10 Billy Graham shares how Bev Shea has been a part of his organization since 1944

00:26 “I’d rather have Jesus than Silver or Gold”

1:18 How Great Thou Art

1:38 While visiting Vietnam, a man asks Bev Shea to sing

2:25 Billy Graham shares how people came to listen to Bev Shea and in small letters, Billy Graham will preach!

3:06 Bev shares funny story about him doing a shoot by the ocean on a big dry rock, but not for long!

4:28 Bev is asked how he’d like to be remembered (his humility is amazing).

When I watched and listened to this short clip, I thought to myself how badly I wanted silver or gold when I was younger.  Though I had committed my life to Jesus and was “saved,” I still was after the things of this world.  I desired fancy cars, pretty girls and the high I could get after partying with my teammates after a win in sports.  I continued to desire those things and went after them the best way I could with the means that I had.  What I can tell you though, is that it never brought me fulfillment.  Other than some quick highs that came and went, “Gary’s path” did not work.  Eventually, in an off-season, I got to a place of being miserable and nothing could satisfy.

Click here to learn more about Gary’s story after you finish the rest of this post.

It took 26 years of my life to go through the highs and lows after chasing the “shiny silver and the shiny gold stuff” to discover that Jesus was the best choice.  I began to experience a fulfillment that felt so much better.  Are you tired of chasing all those things that leave you only thirsting for more and never satisfy?  Are you ready to get on a new path?  I’d love to tell you more about Jesus who I got to know in a much deeper way that year.  Though I wasn’t perfect, I had a desire to be more obedient to Him, and today, I’m on God’s Path where I’m experiencing a lot more peace no matter what happens around me!

Option #2 is in regards to patience with your work, your family, your ___________(fill in the blank)

Here is a man that can be a great encouragement to you, Noah of the ark.

In the very beginning when God created Adam and Eve, well I think you all know the story, they both took a bite of the apple and the very first sin showed up.  God made a perfect place for them both, but He also gave them free will and they chose to do something that was told to them not to do.  I think we all can relate to that, can’t we?  I know when someone tells me not to do something that I many times think to myself that I want to do it sort of to rebel or see if I can get away with it.  Or, sometimes I think to myself, they (my parents) just don’t want me to experience what it’s like to touch the hot fireplace they told me not to touch, and so I do it!  ha ha. You know what I’m saying?

Well through Adam and Eve comes a bunch of other people which includes Noah and his family.  That free will was overflowing with the people during that time as they were all touching fireplace’s (wickedness) except for Noah’s family.  So the Lord said in Genesis 6:7-8, “I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created—and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground—for I regret that I have made them.” But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.”  God continues to tell Noah that He’s going to wipe out all the evil and so He tells Noah to build an ark.  He gives him specific instructions (blue print) in order to build the ark.  There is speculation on how long it took Noah to build this massive ark, but what I found through this resource is that the ark took between 55 and 75 years.

Think about Noah building this ark without the lumber mill, without the big heavy equipment or the scaffolding or man power.  What an amazing story about how God gave to Noah not only the blue prints to build this boat, but also the wisdom, the strength, the fortitude, the desire and the PATIENCE to keep on going.

Do you need patience in your relationships, for your business to get going and start making money, for your book to sell, for more people to ask you to speak, for your hits on your website to be more than 1000 a month so that you can maybe make some money through ads?  I could go on with the different scenarios that we find ourselves in and where we lose patience.

I wanted to encourage you with two things:  eternal life and help with patience.

  1. In John 3:16 it says,For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”  If you prayed this prayer by believing in your heart that Jesus was sent to die on the cross for your sins, then you get to spend eternity in Heaven.
  2. Now that you have accepted Jesus in your heart, you have the Holy Spirit.  Now, ask God for his help in your life with all things, including patience.
